We published our first catalogues in Montreal (Quebec) in 1988. At the end of 1993, the Librairie des Carrés was inaugurated in a building dating from Louis XV, in the Saint Louis district of Versailles.
Some 12 years later, we moved to the pretty village of Gennes on the banks of the Loire and since 2005 have been receiving visitors all year round by appointment.
Initially specialised in Travel and Science, our stock is now largely diversified and includes literature and illustrated books, history, agriculture, gardens, architecture, medicine, rare books from the XVth to the XXth century.
We publish one general paper catalogue per year, in November, featuring about 300 works selected from recent acquisitions, and from time to time a smaller thematic catalogue. We participate regularly to the following book fairs:
- Paris Grand Palais International book fair in April
- Foire aux livres anciens et métiers du livre de Chinon
- Printemps du Livre Ancien in Angers in March
- Paris "Olympe de Gouges" book fair at the end of November
- and other regional or international fairs according to our possibilities.
A significant part of our stock can be accessed online :
